NEW RELEASE
PHILOSOPHY
While Domaine Chandon is best known as one of America's top
sparkling wine houses, we also produce limited quantities of still
wines from estate grown vineyards. The winery crafts these wines by
drawing on our experience with the traditional champagne varietals
of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay. Showcasing select
parcels from its Carneros ranch, where Domaine Chandon was a
pioneering grower and vintner of the region, Domaine Chandon's
still wines were first created in 1989. Originally designed to
educate the winemaking team about each varietal, these wines also
inspired epicurean discovery as they were served with fine cuisine
in the restaurant at Domaine Chandon, now called étoile.
Today Domaine Chandon's varietal wines can be found in restaurants
and fine wine shops nationwide. Maintaining a focus on creating
food-friendly Champagne varietals, the range now includes Unoaked
and Reserve expressions of these grapes in addition to the
signature wines from its Carneros property.
TASTING NOTES
The 2009 Pinot Noir shows distinct fruitiness and complexity. On
the nose also revealed are hints of lavender and thyme joined with
cola nut. The fruit aromas are intense and concentrated punctuated
by black cherry while sandalwood appears as the wine continues to
open. The wine is bright and clean with fresh flavors and well
balanced tannins that will stand up well to food. On the finish,
oak is well integrated with lingering hint of vanilla.
